


The American Legion, commonly known as the Legion, is a non-profit organization of U.S. Veterans headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. It is made up of state, U.S. territory, and overseas departments, and these are in turn made up of local posts.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States is a nonprofit Veterans service organization comprised of eligible Veterans and military service members from the active, guard and reserve forces.
VFW's have many programs and services that work to support Veterans, service members and their families, as well as communities worldwide.

AMVETS is an abbreviation for American Veterans. AMVETS members are active duty and honorably discharged Veterans from all branches of service.
AMVETS is chartered by Congress to assist Veterans in all aspects of their lives, from fighting for full benefits to finding decent jobs.
How the VSO's are run and by whom

Is the Chief Executive Officer of the Post and shall ensure the bylaws and Standing Rules are implemented and followed

Is in charge of the Post’s administrative files; complete and file appropriate forms as required by Federal, State, and City entities; keep a full and correct record of the proceedings of meetings

Responsible for the custody of Post funds and maintain funds in the Post only; prepare and follow the annual budget, advising when adjustments are needed

Advises at various meetings and Robert’s Rules of Order, advise on the construction and interpretation of the Posts’ Bylaws and Standing Rules

Leads the spiritual welfare of all Post comrades; offer divine but non-sectarian service in the event of dedications, funerals, public functions, meetings, etc..

Assists members with the VA claims process and protecting the rights and privileges of all veterans, their dependents and survivors

Scholarships-Most VSO's will help with or provide means for young students to obtain scholarships to acheive higher education!
Community Outreach-Members volunteer more than 9 million hours to community service projects annually, with volunteerism benefiting morale, education, the environment, health sciences and civic projects.
Veterans-All local VSO's have what is known as a service officer, this person is designated to help Veterans obtain the things that they need to get the benefits they deserve.
Long Standing Pillars Of The Community-VSO's have long been actively involved in the community, giving back in ways that have had an impact on lives for decades.

Duty – Just as our Veterans answered their nation’s call of duty, we believe it is our duty to preserve their stories for future generations.
Honor – We believe that our Veterans deserve to be honored by all those they liberated and protected.
Sacrifice – Our Veterans have sacrificed so much to secure our liberties and safety, and deserve to be remembered for those sacrifices.
Preservation – The Veterans who have served us in so many ways deserve to have their actions preserved and immortalized, that they may not be forgotten, and that others may not have to repeat their heroic actions
OUR GOAL:
Educate and raise awareness among the general public about the active duty military and Veterans who work for a better community by promoting the values of duty, honor, sacrifice and patriotism.
